CHS
The Community Help Service Helpline was established in 1971. The initial focus was to support English-speaking ex-patriates coming to live in Belgium. Today, the Helpline serves a much wider community and provides crucial mental health support operating on a 24/7 basis. The Helpline is anonymous, confidential and free. The Helpline is manned by volunteers supervised by two trained psychologists. Volunteers take around 5,000 calls a year and spend over 1,000 hours talking with people from Belgium and beyond. Calls cover a wide range of mental health issues with an increasing number of suicide-related calls. The Helpline is entirely dependent on voluntary donations.
